The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) offers a high quality of effective and practical oriented top business further education. It provides professionals the opportunity to reach the next level in their academic and career path - in a reasonable time and cost frame.

If you want to further your career with enhanced research and methodological skills that differentiate you from the mass of Master's degrees in the education market, then a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree provides you a path to that goal. The DBA is a doctoral degree that corresponds to a conventional Ph.D. program, but focuses on the application of business theory in practice, policy or strategy within the context of the individual’s workplace or another professional practice. Fully recognized by American, British, and Swiss higher education authorities, a DBA provides working professionals the opportunity to go to the next level in their academic and career progression and achieve a doctoral degree and title.

In cooperation with the SGMI Management Institute (Switzerland) the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham (UK) offers working professionals a 3-4 year doctoral program consisting of 4 taught modules in the first 18 months, followed by research and dissertation completion in the remaining months. The University of Gloucestershire is a leading and recognized business school in the United Kingdom, with a vibrant and growing DBA program.

The generic profile for the DBA challenge is a Bachelors degree from an accredited university or university of applied sciences, an Executive MBA (EMBA) or consecutive Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from an accredited university or university of applied sciences (alternatively an EMBA, MA or MSc in an allied business subject), excellent English skills, and substantive management experience. After completing the admissions process, a candidate joins a cohort. With intakes every October, each doctoral cohort of between 10 - 20 participants proceeds to Cheltenham, UK for the taught modules. 3 years later the DBA candidate has completed his dissertation, oral defense, and is awarded the coveted Doctor title from a leading British university--and is ready for the next step in the career.

The DBA offers a structured route to doctoral level achievement:

The initial modular element (18 months):

  • Emphasizes management philosophy and critique, methodology and methods, action and participation issues in research; at its conclusion, you present your research plan, supported by a literature review.
  • Is supported by staff working with you directly on the modules, and also by a research support panel (three or four members of staff and a small number of fellow participants, to help you develop your research ideas and assist in the creation of your research plan).

The research phase (18 month minimum period):

  • Once your research plan is approved, you begin the research phase.
  • This requires you to complete an extended research program.
  • Your research focuses on a topic of importance to both you and your organization.
  • During this period you may work with two supervisors or continue to be supervised by your research support panel.
  • At the conclusion you submit your thesis and present and defend it in a viva voce.
